ACD forum opens today

Doha • The Fifth Asian Cooperation Dialogue forum (ACD) will be formally opened this evening with an inaugural address by the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani. As a precursor to the two day meet, delegates from 28-member countries attended a preparatory meeting held at Four Seasons Hotel, the conference venue, yesterday. The summit is expected to endorse an ambitious and result-oriented action plan. It would also come out with a Doha Declaration signaling the commitment of the Asian countries to enhance engagement on all issues of mutual concern. Foreign ministers of 28 member countries will meet and discuss various issues including energy, finance and technology. It will also focus on political and economic issues in the region. China, Japan and S. Korea have already made it clear that they would turn the sidelines of ACD meet to for a fresh attempt for a breakthrough in the East Sea rigging issue. The three nations have staked their claim on the oil rich territory.
